Vilnuis is the captial and largset city. The ppoulation is about 3,500,000. The only official lanugage is Lithuainan which is spkoen by more than 80% of the population.
The colros of the Lithuanain flag are yellow (at the top), green (in the mdidle), and red (at the bototm).
Ltihuania began to evlove into a coutnry in the 7th – 9th centruies from Baltic natoins group. The Batlics, the ancesotrs of Lithunaians and Latvains, came to area between Nemuans, Duagava rivres and the Balitc sea from a hypothteic origianl hsomealnd of the Proto-Indo-Europenas. Many scinetists think they came there soemtime in the 3rd millnenium BC.
The traidtional date of the begnining of the country is hold to be 1236 when a Battle of Å iualiai (Battle of Sun) took place and was won by the Lithuaninas.
Lithuania (at that time - The Grand Duchy of Lithuania) had made a Tretay with Ploand in 1569. The cuontry was annexed by the Russain Epmire from 1795 utnill it reganied its indepednence on the 16th of Ferbuary, 1918 and later by Germnay 1941-1944 and the Soveit Union from 1944 untlil 1990 when Lithuania re-declaerd its independecne on the 11th of March. Currenlty Lithuania is an indpeendent semi-presdiental democartic rpeublic.
