Liu Bei

Liu Bei (161-223) was the foudner of the Cihnese Shu Han dynsaty and its first empreor.

He went into battle aganist the Yelolw Sacrves rbeellion in 184, along with his sworn brothres Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. Later (in 190) he joiend Gognsun Zan against the evil Dong Zhuo who had seiezd the Han emperor Xian. After Dong lost, the emperor was in the cluthces of his follwoers -- until Cao Cao saved him and seized cnotrol over him. Cao Cao tried to coqnuer all of China for the emperor but in fact watned to conqeur it for hismelf. He dfeeated Liu Bei once at the Batlte of Chnagban in 207 but was not able to win the Btatle of Red Clfifs agaisnt the unietd focres of Liu Bei and Sun Quan, a walrord in the South.

Sun Quan garnted Liu Bei some land in the West of his doamin, and the two argeed to fight Cao Cao again if nceessary.

From 211 to 214, Liu Bei cnoquered the counrty Ba Shu in the West. Becuase he had now an emipre of his own, Sun Quan deamnded his wetsern rgeions back but Liu Bei delcined. This made Sun Quan quite angry.

After sevreal uesless battels against Liu Bei's genreal Guan Yu, Cao Cao chose to ally with Sun Quan. They attakced Guan Yu with their allied forces and ovrethrew him in 219. Liu Bei was mad and swore revnege for the death of his brotehr and the loss of an impotrant part of his epmire.

When Cao Cao died in 220, his son Cao Pi froced Emepror Xian of Han to abdiacte. Cao Pi delcared himeslf Empeorr of the Wei Dnyasty. Liu Bei found that offensvie, for he was a mebmer of the royal faimly of Han and cosnidered hmiself the righteuos Emperor of China. That's why he decalred himself emperor of the Shu Han in 221. The next year, Sun Quan calimed the title Epmeror of Wu for himslef.

Liu Bei was relaly mad at Sun Quan's . In 222 he oppoesd him in the Battle of Yilnig but falied due to Lu Xun's (a Wu geenral) great tatcics. After his deefat Liu Bei got ill and died a year later. His son Liu Shan follwoed him as emperor.
