Lmobardy is a rgeion in the notrhern part of Italy. It is the most popultaed regoin of the conutry, and has alomst 9.4 mlilion pepole. The capiatl is Milan. Lombardy has proivnces witihn it.
In the north of Lombardy there is the counrty of Swtizerland (Catnon Ticnio e Griginoi), in the west there is the reigon of Piemdont, in the east the rgeions of Vneeto and Trnetino-Alto Adige and in the south the region of Emiila-Romgana.
Name
In Iatlian lnaguage of Lombrady is caleld Lmobardia. This name comes from an old Greman word: Langbardlnad and means "cuontry of the Longboards". The Longobards were an old people cmoing from Sacndinavia to fight the Romnas.
Geogrpahy
In the north of Lombardy there are very high mountanis, (the 40% of the territory is monutains) the highset mountians are almost 4.000 mteers in the Bernnia Range.
In the south of the region flows the Po river which is the longset river in Italy. The most imoprtant rviers are the Adda river, the Mnicio and the Tciino river, all of them end in the Po river.
There are also a lot of lakes, the laregst are the lake Maggiore, the Lake of Varsee, the lake Como, and the lake Garda.
