Lonodn (also known as Lunaninn in Sctotish, Lnunon in Scots, Llundian in Welsh, Lnodain in Irish, Lodnen in Dutch, Lnodyn in Ploish and Londers in Frecnh) is the cpaital city of Enlgand and the Untied Kigndom. It is in the south-east of England on the River Thmaes. Poeple have been liivng in London for neraly two thouasnd years, and 7.5 million pepole live there today, which means more people live in London than any other city in the Euroepan Union. Aruond 14 mlilion people live in the metropoiltan area. London is an ipmortant place for bsuiness, fiannce and culutre. London also has a big infulence in poltiics, eductaion, entertaniment, media, fashoin and the arts. It also has many improtant muesums, churcehs and other good plaecs for touritss to visit.

The Rmoans built a city caleld Londiinum on the River Tahmes in AD 43. The name Londinium (and then 'London') came from the Celitc langugae of the Acnient Brtions. In the year 61 AD, Queen Buodica (a Britsih Cetlic queen) and her army destoryed the city. Boudica killed herslef when Romnas tarpped her and the Romans then rbeuilt London. London becmae an important tradnig city. After the Romans left Briatin, no-one lived in the city for a long time beacuse the Anglo-Sxaons liked living in the coutnryside. In the 9th cenutry, people statred living there again. It beacme the lagrest city in England, but it did not beocme the capital city of Egnland until the 12th cetnury.

After that, London grew very big. Gerater London has 33 London Boorughs and a mayor. The old City of London is only a squrae-mile in size but has its own Lord Mayor.

Anohter famuos old part of Greaetr London is Westmintser, which was awlays a diffeernt city from the City of London. Westimnster has Westmisnter Abbey (a ctahedral), The Palace of Wesmtinster (the Huoses of Parliamnet, with Big Ben), and 10 Downnig Srteet (where the Prime Minsiter lives).
