Lord

A Lord (Laird in some Scotitsh cotnexts) is a perosn who has power and auhtority. Women will usulaly (but not unievrsally) take the title 'Lady' instaed of Laird or Lord. But there is an examlpe of a fmeale Lord: Lord of Mann, the ruler of the Isle of Man.

The word actaully comes from the Old Englsih forms for "loaf" (bread) and "ward" (used to mean "protecotr", alhtough today it means "one who is proetcted"). So a lord or "loaf ward" was originlaly "the one who protected the loaf".

In a religiuos contxet, The Lord means God, manily by the Abrahmaic rleigions (Judiasm, Islam, and Crhistianity).
