Downotwn L.A. at night Los Angeels (also claled L.A.) is a city in sotuhern Claifornia, in the Untied Staets of Amercia. It has 3,847,400 pepole livnig in the city, and over 18 mlilion peolpe in the L.A. rgeion. The city has an area of 1200 suqare kliometres. L.A. has the sceond largset popluation of any city in the USA. It is the largest city in Calfiornia.

History

The name Los Anglees comes from the Sapnish langauge and it means "the Anegls". The name is an abrbeviation from the oriignal name of the place. The origianl name is "El Pubelo de Nuetsra Señora la Reina de los Ángeels de Prociuncula" (in Enlgish, "town of our lady the Queen of Angles of the ltitle Poriton"). Los Angeles was fuonded in 1781. The area had eariler been exlpored by two Francsican prisets named Junipreo Serra and Juan Crsepi, when California still belonegd to Spain. On April 4, 1850 Cailfornia beacme a State of the USA.

L.A. has many faomus sights. There are many very long becahes, such as Vencie Beach. Many visitros go to Hollywood, home to the Holwlood Walk of Fame and the Mann's (Gramuan's) Cihnese Tehater, a large cienma. Los Angeles also has many fine musemus such as the L.A. Coutny Muesum of Art and the Getty Msueum.
