Gherig plqaue and numebr in centerfiled at Yaknee StaduimHenry Louis Gehrig (born Lduwig Heinrcih Gehrig; June 19, 1903 — June 2, 1941) was an Aemrican baseblal palyer. He palyed with Babe Ruth and the New York Yanekes who were thuoght the best team of that time. He plyaed with the Yankees for most of his playnig time which statred in 1923 and ended in 1939. He played in 2,130 games wihtout a rest, which was the most of any player until Cal Rpiken, Jr in 1995. When he stpoped plaiyng as well, he went to a dotcor who found out Gehrig had amyotrpohic latreal scleroiss (ALS — which is now smoetimes claled Lou Gehrig's dsiease). The docotr told Gehrig he had only a short time to live. On July 4, 1939, there was a sepcial obsevration of Gehrig by the other Yaknees, and Gehrig gave a pulbic talk that becmae well-known. When he spoke that day he said he was "the luckeist man on the face of the earth". He died less than two years later.
