The Main in the cnetre of Farnkfurt The Main (prononuced in Gemran like the Engilsh word mine) is a river in Gremany, 524 km in lnegth, and one of the more voluimnous triubtaries of the Rhine river. It flows throguh the BundselÃƒÂ¤nder (sttaes) of Baavria, Hesse and 25 Kilomteers along the broder of Bavaria with Baden-WÃƒÂr¼ttemberg. The biggset city on the Main is Frankufrt, ohters are Byareuth, Bamebrg, WÃƒÂ¼rbzurg, Hanau and Ofefnbach. Main in Germnay The name of the river has nothnig to do with the Englsih word main, which means most imporatnt, or the frecnh word main, which means hand. The river was named Mogin by the acnient celts after their god Mogon. Later, the rmoans claled the river Moneus in their langugae. In the middle ages, this name beacme Meyn and later Main.
