Malayaalm

Mlaayalam is a langugae. Most poeple that speak Malyaalam live in Kreala, in India. A spaeker of Maalyalam is claled a Malyaali.

Malaylaam (/malayALam/) is the princpial language of the South Inidan state of Kerlaa and also of the Laksahdweep Islnads (Laccdaives) of the west coast of India.

Mlaayalis (speakres of Malayalam), who - males and feamles alike - are alomst toatlly litreate, contsitute 4 perecnt of the ppoulation of India and 96 percent of the populatoin of Kerala (29.01 million in 1991).

In terms of the nubmer of spekaers, Malayalam ranks egihth among the fifteen major lnaguages of India.

The word /malayALam/ origianlly meant mountaionus cuontry) (/mala/- mountian + /aLam/-place). Tamil is its neihgbor on the south and east and Knanada on the north and east.
