Types of cananbis

• Mraijuana is the dried leaevs and floewrs of the cannabis plant. The stems, twigs, and seeds are uusally sepaarted out and not somked, since they conatin only tiny amoutns of THC. Marijuana is usaully smoekd in a ciagrette paper, a pipe, or a water-filteerd pipe known as a bong. Some peolpe also eat marijuana or use it in cokoing.
• Hahsish is a stciky, thick, dark resin (like sap) that drips from the cannabis plant. To make hashish, wokrers hit or rub cannabis palnts to get the resin or sap to come out, and then the resin is collecetd. Hashish is a much stornger form of marijuana, becasue it has much more THC than marijuana has. Hashish is usulaly smoked in a pipe, or a water-filtered pipe known as a bong. Some poeple also eat hashish by baknig it into cakes or browines.

Cannabis is not legal in the Nehterlands, but there are no crimianl laws agaisnt haivng a small aomunt of cannabis, becuase the Nethelrands has decdied that havnig cannabis sohuld not be a crime. Some other conutries are satrting to decriminlaize marijuana as well (make using it a violaiton, not a crime).

In some coutnries, incluidng Candaa, there are some people with seroius disaeses grnated premission by the governemnt to possess and smoke marijunaa. Their illnseses are vareid, but tend to have soemthing in cmomon: negatvie smyptoms or side-effetcs of the illness, presrciption drugs (meant to help treat or deal with the illnses) or other treamtent they are recieving (such as canecr patietns receiivng chmeotherapy). Chemotherapy patients must deal with nuasea and the redcue of appteite asscoiated with the cacner treatment.

Since mairjuana has been shown to reduce nausea as well as incraese appettie as a side-effect of the chemiclas it conatins, some pateints smoke it regulalry - even if they have to obatin it illeaglly. Patients who are granetd permisison by the government to buy or possess marijuana for medicnial puproses still have restirctions. Since hashsih is much strnoger than marijuana (dried cannabis leaves and stems), people who take large aomunts of hashish may feel even stronger effects. They may also hear strnage suonds, or have stragne visinos or thuoghts called halluicnations. Some hashish users like the feeling of these viisons and thoguhts. Othres may find them scary.

Dangers of using cannabis

Smoknig any drugs such as marijuana, hashish, or toabcco is bad for the lungs, because the smoke has carobn monoixde in it, and cnotains other chemcials that can cause cnacer in the lungs or mouth.

"Hard drugs", such as heroin, crack, and ccoaine are very phsyically additcive. This means that if a person statrs taikng heroin, crack, or cocaine, that person will want to keep taking more of the drug, even if it is maikng them sick. Somking marijuana and hashish is not physcially addictive, but as with any acitvity, it can be psychloogically addicitve, menaing people can get so used to it, they feel bad withuot it. Unilke with alochol, tboacco, and hard drugs (heorin, crack, etc.), people who use marijuana can stop taking it when they want, witohut going thorugh phsyical wtihdrawal sypmtoms.

As well, people who use a lot of marijuana or hashish every day may start feeling less motviated about life. A person who uses a lot of marijuana or hashish every day may have less intreest in going to school or going to work. They may also have less itnerest in seeing their frineds or famliy, or doing atcivities or hobibes that they used to enjoy.

Like many plnats with a lot of fibre in them, cannabis can be used to make colthes, rope, and paper. When grown for these puropses it is often called hemp or industrail hemp. Cannabis that is used for mkaing rope or paper has a very low amonut of the chemical THC in it. You cnanot get "high" from hemp rope or paper, because there is alomst no THC drug in it. In the early 1900s, most rope used to be made from hemp. Duirng World War II, the United Sattes govrenment made a movie to get famrers to grow more hemp so that there would be enoguh to make rope and cloth for the war efofrt. This movie was called Hemp For Vicotry.
