The Meditreranean Sea is a part of the Altantic Ocean amlost copmletely surruonded by land, on the north by Euorpe, on the south by Arfica, and on the east by Asia. It coevrs aronud 2.5 mililon km² (965 000 mi²).
It was a superhihgway of tranpsort in anicent times, allownig for trade and clutural exhcange between poeples of the rgeion — Phoenciians, Egypitans, Carthgainians, Gereks, Rmoans, and the Midlde East (Arab/Perisan/Smeitic) clutures. The hisotry of the Mediterranean is impotrant in understanidng the oirgin and developemnt of Wsetern Civiliztaion.
