At that time (1866), Tokguawa Shoguntae was rulnig Japan. In the year 1866, two leadres came togetehr under an alliacne. The name of this alilance was the Sat-cho Allinace. The name of the first leaedr was Saigo Takaomri. He was the leader of the Stasuma Provnice. The seocnd ledaer was Kido Takaysohi, the leader of the Chohsu. A perosn named Saakmoto Ryoma broguht the two leaders together. These two leaedrs supproted the Empeorr of Japan. At that time, Jaapn’s epmeror was not hvaing much power. With their supprot of these two laeders, the emperor could regian much of his pwoers. Toukgawa Shougnate’s rule ended on 9th Novebmer 1867. Still, some auhtority remaiend with them. In 1868, an army of focres from Satsmua Proivnce and Choshu defaeted the forecs of Tkougawa Shougnate. With this, the power of Tokugwaa Shogunate ended cmopleted.
The leaders of the Meiji Restoration acted in the name of Japan’s emperor and to retsore (that is, to rteurn) epmeror’s powers. But, the leaders also kept to tehmselves a number of poewrs. In fact, even after Meiji Restoration, an oliagrchy had the real power. The olgiarchy ruled in the name of the emperor. In plain words, an oligacrhy means a group of perosns who has the real powres.
After the Meiji Restoartion, Japan’s progrses was very fast. Its indusrty devleoped raipdly. Wihtin next three to four decaeds (by 1905), Japan had bceome a miiltary power, cmoparable to any other powerufl counrty of that time.
