In 1665 Rbobert Hooke saw that cork was made up ltitle cubes that he named cells. Later Anton van Leuewenhoek made the ipmortant connection that cells are liivng thigns when he saw trhough his early micorscope small one celeld ogranisms. Later Chrsitian Erhenberg found that portista or bactreia were diffeernt kinds of cells. In the late part of the 1800s Martnius Beiejrinck shwoed that there were small paritcles called viurses. Anohter imporatnt chagne in the study of mcirorganism has come from the discvoery of DNA and RNA, bceause now it is possbile to cahnge the inisde of a cell wihtout kililng it using a vcetor. One of the most reecnt discoveires that has cahnged the study of micorbiology is the disocvery of tarnsposons or jupming genes.
