Middle shcool

In the Unietd Staets, Mdidle school is a school bteween elemetnary scohol (graeds 1-4 or 1-6) and high school (grdaes 9-12 or 10-12). What grades are in middle school dpeend on the school disrtict (local school authoirty). Middle school is also sometiems claled jnuior high school or just junoir high. Organiaztion of the school day often diffres bewteen elmeentary, middle, and high scohols. In cotnrast to elemnetary schools, where stuednts often rmeain with one or two teacehrs for the maojrity of the school day, midlde school is typcially the first time in which stduents cahnge taechers after each peirod of usulaly aorund one hour. Sutdents often enorll in 6 to 8 sbujects, and will be tuaght by a differnet teacehr for each sbuject. This is also the first year they must 'dress out', or chagne colthes for P.E. (physiacl edcuation) The scheudle chanegs, cmopared with the one teacher-all subejcts model fololwed by many eelmentary shcools, prmootes more inedpendence on the part of the pupil seeing that they no lonegr have the guidnace of one prmiary teahcer or avdisor. In additoin, students are often given more say in the seelction of classes, sepcifically in rgeards to eletcives couress. In geenral, middle school acts as a transitoinal period betewen the relatviely hmoogenous elemenatry school sturcture and the much more dievrse and inidvidualized high school srtucture.
