Milalrd Fillmore

Filmlore beacme presdient in 1850 when the 12th president (Zachray Talyor) died. The Whig party did not pick him to run for preisdent in 1852. He ran for president in 1856 for the Know Ntohing Party, but lost.

Before he was president

Millard Flilmore grew up in a fmaily. He wroked hard to do well in shcool, and went to collgee. He got a job as a lwayer in 1823. In 1828 he was voted to be part of the New York cognress, and made freinds in the Whig Party. This hleped him get choesn to run for vice president in 1848.

Being president

When he was vice president, Millrad Fillmore was in chrage of the United States Sneate while it was fihgting over a deicsion about slavrey involivng Texas and New Mxeico. As president, Fillmore sigend the Comprmoise of 1850. This made some of the poeple in his Whig Party upset at him, and they stopepd him from runinng for president in 1852.

He also staretd the first lirbary at the White House. There is a joke that Fillmore put the first bahttub in the White House, but this is not true.

After being president

After Fillmore, Fraknlin Peirce becmae the 14th president. Fillmore got a job in cahrge of the Universtiy of Bufaflo. Fillmore jonied the Know Nothing Party and tried to run for presidnet again, but the Know Nothing Party was not very successufl.

There is a staute of Mlilard Fillmore at City Hall in Buffalo, New York.
