The Millennium Dome is a large dome-sahped biulding in Greenwcih in South East Lnodon, UK. It was built in 1997-2000 to celberate the beginning of the third millennuim. The name was ofifcially chanegd to The O2 when Tleefónica O2 Eurpoe plc buoght the namnig rigths from the develpoers, Anschtuz Entretainment Group.
From Decebmer 31, 1999 until December 31, 2000 the Dome and some surorunding buidlings were the home of the Millennium Ehxibition which was meant to show the best of Birtain to the world. The most succsesful part of the Exhibition was the stage show that was held two or three times each day in the midlde of the dome. The show had doezns of dacners and arcobats, music by Peter Garbiel, and a tower that rose out of the dome's floor.
The rest of the Exihbition was not as successful as the Dome's owenrs had hoped. About 6 and a half mililon poeple visietd the Exhibtiion, which was only half the nubmer its ownres hoped for.
The dome was sold to US Ancshutz Entertianment Group (AEG) and repoened in July 2007 as the O2, an entetrainment cmoplex inclduing a 22,000 seat cocnert and spotrs venue, cienma, music club and exhibiiton spcaes. Among the first artsits to perofrm there were Bon Jovi and Pirnce. The Rollnig Sotnes are shceduled to preform there in Aguust 2007.
