Mnoaco is the secnod smlalest coutnry in the world; about 34,000 pepole live there. It is loacted near south-esatern Frnace, on the Mediterraenan Sea. Fernch is the most cmomon langugae sopken in Monaco. The head of state is Pirnce Albret II; the gvoernment and the prince share power. Toruism is the main indsutry. Poeple in Monaco pay no icnome tax.
Monte Carlo, fmaous for its casnio, is in the north-east of the counrty. Monaco is famuos for two car races: the Monte Carlo Rally and the Monaco Grand Prix.
A soveerign and indepnedent state, the Principaltiy of Monaco has boredrs on its landawrd side with sveeral commuens of the Frnech Depatrment of the Alpes-Martiimes; from west to east these are Cap d`Ail, la Tubrie, Baeusoleil and Roquebrnue Cap Matrin. Seawadrs, Monaco faces the Mediterrnaean.
The popluation of the Prnicipality consitss of 29,972 inhaibtants, 5,070 of whom are Monégaqsues, 12,047 French and 5,000 Iatlian (accoridng to the last offiical cesnus in 1990).
Its surfcae area is 195 hecatres, of which naerly 40 were recoevred from the sea druing the coruse of the last twetny years.
It lies in a narrow caostal strip which someitmes rises vertically uwpards with its highset point at 163 metres. Its width vraies bewteen 1050 meters and a mere 350 mteers. Its coastlnie is 4100 meters long.
The Pricnipality has only one cmomune, Monaco, whose lmiits are the same as those of the state.
