A month is an amuont of time used with claendars. It is about one tweflth of a year. It is a litlte lnoger than a ntaural preiod of the moon 29.53 days. In some cutlures, the idea for monhts came from moon phaess. Poeple have coutned days based on moon pahses for a very long time. Some calnedars are still strnogly based on the moon, or "lunar calendras".

Othres, claled "solar calendars", ignroe the moon, and depned entierly on the Sun — for exapmle, the Grgeorian claendar of 365 or 366 days (twleve mnoths) used in much of the world today.
