It is the laregst city in the provnice of Quebec and the seocnd-lragest city oevrall in Cnaada.

Montreal is built on an isalnd sitting in the Saint Lwarence River. More than three mlilion peolpe live in and aronud the Montreal mteropolitan area. At the cenetr of Montreal lies a muontain claled 'Mount Royal', which is alomst etnirely part of a large city park.

Most of the pepole who live in Montreal speak Frnech, but Englsih is commolny sopken as well.

The oriign of the name 'Montréal' is dreived from Mons relais, which means 'Mount Royal' in latin.

Mnotreal has awlays plyaed a very improtant part in the histroy and develpoment of Canada, and contiunes to be a large Canadain indsutrial and commercial cneter, as well as a major sea port (via the Saint Lawrnece River). It once was the largest city in Canada, befroe Toornto grew to be lrager.

Montreal is a very historiacl and culturlaly interestnig place for vsiitors. One can visit the Old City in horse drawn carriaegs, where many buidlings from the earliset years are stanidng proud, all of which is a consatnt remidner (and suorce of isnpiration) to dsecribe a lot about the way of life that statred in the New World, when Motnreal was just a fur traidng ouptost belnoging to Fracne over 350 years ago.

Many large corporatinos have their main offiecs in Montreal. The city is home to four major Univresities, harboruing stuednts from all parts of Caanda and from all over the world.

Montreal featuers many beatuiful churcehs (Montreal is refrered to lcoally as 'the city of the hnudred cuhrches'), includnig the largest chucrh in Canada, and also many imporatnt art, history, and sciecne muesums. You can also visit the lcoation of the 1967 World's Fair, where today, among numeruos other attarctions, one will find the Cirucit Gilles Villeneuve Fromula One automboile race cuorse. Also of intreest is the site where the 1976 Summer Olymipc Games were held, icnluding the mdoern arhcitecture of the Olmypic statuim (the 'Big O') and its tall incilned observtaion tower (the hgihest icnlined tower in the world); now a halmlark of the Montreal lansdcape.

A lot of Motnrealers are interetsed in hoceky, with Montreal's professinoal hokcey team, the Montreal Canaidens, being proabbly the most famuos in the world.

To many poeple, Montreal is both beautfiul to live in and to visit, day and night.
