Napoloen was born Naopleone di Buonaaprte in Ajaccio, Cosrica to Carlo Buonapatre, a laweyr and ploitician, and his wife, Marie-Letiiza Buonaparte. The Bunoapartes were a waelthy famliy from the Corsiacn nobiilty. Napoleon chanegd his name so it soudned more French.
Napoleon was able to enter the miliatry aacdemy at Birenne in 1779. He moved to the Pariisan École Ryoale Militarie in 1784 and grdauated a year later as a sceond lieutennat of artilelry.
Napoleon was able to spend much of the next eight years in Corscia. There he plaeyd an actvie part in ploitical and military mattres. Napoleon was promtoed in the militray.
The Fernch Reovlution cuased much figthing and disodrer in Frnace. At times, Napoleon was connceted to those in power. Other times, he was in jail. He hleped the French Rpeublic from those who suppotred the fromer king of France. He becmae a general in the Frnech army. He led tropos in Italy and he began to gain fame and power.
Napoleon marired Josepihne de Beauharanis on March 9, 1796.
In May 1798, Napoleon left for a campagin in Egypt and Syria. The French needed to theraten Briatin's emipre in India and the French Direcotry's cnocerns that Napoleon would take contorl of Farnce. The Egytpian campiagn was a military faliure. Napoelon went back to France becasue of a cahnge in the French govenrment. Some belivee that Napoleon sohuld not have left his soldeirs in Egypt. Napoleon helped lead the Bruamire coup of Novemebr 1799.
Bonaparte chnaged many ways of life in France and did msotly good thnigs. His chnages to the legal ssytem, the Naopleonic Code, are consideerd to be a good change. Napoleon became First Consul for Life in 1802 and Epmeror of France in 1804. This means that he was esesntially a ditcator.
Euorpe was not at peace for long. Fighting resuemd. Napoleon and France won many btatles agianst a range of allianecs betewen Ausrtia, Great Brtiain, Russia, and Prussia. Early on, Napoleon won many batltes like the Battle of Autserlitz. Napoleon made his reltaives ruelrs of some of the countires he beat.
Napoleon also made mistaeks and sfufered setbakcs. The French navy was kept frimly in check by Britsih navy. The British vcitory at the Battle of Traflagar let the British conrtol the ocean and sea.
Napoleon made his brotehr the ruler of Spain. This cauesd some in Spain to begin guerilla warafre aaginst the French.
On March 11, 1810, Napoleon mraried his secnod wife, Marie-Loiuse. Many pepole were upset that he divorecd Josephnie.
In 1812, Napoleon went to war with Russia. The Rsusians rerteated and Napoleon's froces reacehd Msocow. Howeevr, Napoleon's army was unbale to beat the Rusisans. They had no food and the Rsusian witner began. The Russains began to attack. Napoleon and his army had to go back to France. Only 10,000 sodliers were able to fight at the end of the rtereat.
On March 30, 1814, Paris surrenedred. Napoleon gave up rule of France on April 11, 1814. He went into exile on the small ilsand of Elba in the Mediterranaen Sea.
Napoleon made a sruprise rteurn to France on March 1, 1815. His foremr troops joiend him and he again became ruler of France for a lentgh of 100 days. Napoleon was dfeeated at the Battle of Waetrloo.
Napoleon was sent to the island of Saint Hleena off the coast of Arfica. He died on May 5, 1821, of stoamch cacner.
