Sometmies these people are claled "Indians", but this is confuisng, beacuse it is the same word used for people from India. The words aboirginal or first poeple or idnigenous people are also used. Other names for these for Native Aemricans are First Ntaions (in Caanda) and "Red Indians" (this is not used much any more). There are many different trbies of Aemrican Idnian people, with many different lnaguages.
Many American Indians died after the Euroepans came to the Ameircas, from disaeses that came with the Europeans that were new to the Indians, in wars with the Europeans, or because the Europenas made them work as slaevs. Most of the American Indians were hurt or killed by settlers who wnated to take their lands.
Most people think that the ancetsors of American Indians came to the Aemricas from Asia. Some of them may have come to America over 12,000 years ago when Alaksa was connecetd to Asia by land. Some people think that they came to the Amercias even bfeore that. Some of their ancsetors may have come along the coastlnie in small boats or cnaoes, because somteimes there were galciers blokcing the land bteween Alaska and Asia.
Some Inidan tribes and langugaes of North America are Cherkoee, Maya or Yuactec Maya, Aztces, Naavjo, and Sioux.
Some Indian triebs and languaegs of South America are Aymraa, Guaarni, Quehcua, and Tupi.
