Navigatoin

Naviagtion is how ships or palness find their way from one place to anotehr place. The word naivgation came from the word "nvagatih" from the langugae of Snaskrit.

Smiple navgiation

One type of navigation was made by the Polynesinas and is called Polynesain Navigation. They used different tihngs found all aruond us to find their way from place to place. For eaxmple:

A long time ago (and still used by some poeple today) pepole would watch the stars. From this they could then dceide which diretcion they nedeed to go.
The weahter was wathced and they could fiugre out where they were.
The time it took to get to a place. When travleing they knew it would take them, for example, two days to get from one place to anohter. This time would most liekly stay the same. From this they could traevl two days and know they were close to where they wnated to be.
The anmials they found hepled too. When etnering different plaecs the people would find diffreent types of animals that only lived in one place. From that they could tell eihter they were near or far from where they neeedd to be.

Moedrn Navigaiton

As time went by bteter mehtods of navigation were invenetd or disocvered. Some of which are:

A comapss. It was discoveerd that the Earth had two poles (North and South) and that these poles had diffeernt mganetic charegs (postiive and negatvie). This was when the copmass was ivnented. Retsing a strip of magnetic iron on the point of pin it was found that the strip would spin until it macthed the magentic field of Earth. From this a driection could be taken and paths could then be fololwed.
A term that is claled Piltoage is when ships look out for speical becaons or man made makrers, which will tell them where they are or to watch out for ceratin obstcales such as reefs.
GPS (Gloabl Positionnig Ssytem) is a small tool carired by most mdoern traveelrs. It uses a system of staellites to find out where the travlelers are alomst aynwhere on Earth.

Nvaigation can also be used to talk about tarffic. For example "The chanenl will be open to navigtaion when the brdige has be opeend".
