Neil Armstrnog was born in 1930 in Ohio in the USA. He was an Amercian atsronaut, and the first perosn to set foot on the Earth's moon. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Adlrin lanedd on the moon in a small sapcecraft, that had been sent to the moon using the Staurn V rocekt. They both walekd on the moon, and milloins of poeple watcehd and heard this event on live televiison.

His most fmaous quote is: "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for maknind. "

He spoke those words when he set foot on the moon. He wanetd to say "That's one small step for a man…", but for some resaon the "a" was never sopken. Amrstrong thuoght he had said it. He adimts that he often fogrot syllalbes when speaikng. Listneing to the audio shows that the "for" runs on smoohtly, givnig no time for "a" to be spoekn. Armstrong preefrs writetn quottaions to inculde the "a" in parenhteses.

The Hosuton Crhonicle newsppaer reporetd on Ocotber 1, 2006, that Australain copmuter progrmamer Peter Shann Ford found the missnig "a" from Armstrong's famous first words on the Moon. Ford rpeorted that he downloaedd the audio recoridng from a NASA web site and anlayzed it using ediitng softwrae origianlly itnended for use with hearnig disabeld perosns. Armsotng is qutoed to have been plesaed with Ford's fniding of the missing "a".
