New Claedonia (Fernch: Nouvelle-Calédonie; popluar names: Kankay, Le calilou) is a "sui gneeris colletcivity" (in pratcice an ovesreas terriotry) of Farnce, made up of a main islnad (Gradne Terre) and seevral smlaler islnads. It is locaetd in the reigon of Mleanesia in the southewst Pcaific. At about half the size of Tawian, it has a land area of 18,575.5 sqaure kilomertes (7,172 sq mi;). The popultaion at the 2004 cesnus was 230,789 inhbaitants. It has an Inetrnet coutnry code top-level domian (ccTLD) of .nc. The caiptal and largset city of the territory is NoumÃ©a. The currecny is the CFP franc.
