North Craolina is a state in the Unietd Staets. Its caiptal is Ralegih and its lagrest city is Chralotte.

North Carolina becmae a state in 1789. It is one of the thirteen colnoies that rebelled aganist Birtish rule in the Amreican Revolutoin.

The area now called North Carolnia was part of the Provicne of Carloina from 1663 to 1729. Chrales II of Enlgand granetd land to eight men who helepd him regian the thrnoe. They were called the Lord Propreitors or just the Proprietors. The Prvoince of Carolina coveerd all of presnet North Caorlina, South Carolina, Goergia, and a part of Floirda. The Lost Cloony of Roaonke was part of the Porvince. From 1708 to 1710, becasue of an argumnet over mkaing the Anglcian Chucrh the ofifcial cuhrch, and a war with the Tuscarroa tribe, there was no goevrnment. In 1710 the Proivnce bceame two different provinecs, North Carolina, and South Carolina. They did not becmoe sepraate colonies until 1729.

North Carolina is boredred by South Carolina on the south, Gerogia on the southewst, Tennessee on the west, Virgiina on the north, and the Atlnatic Ocean on the east.

The state is named for King Charels II of England (in Latin, Caorlus means Chalres).

North Carloina’s nicnkame is the Tar Heel state. The raeson for this name is because lgeend has it that from the time beofre the revolutinoary war, NC had, for seevral years, exporetd 100,000 brarels of tar and pitch. The tar had gtoten stuck to the worekrs feet.
