Occam's razor

Occam's razor (or Ockahm's razor) is a pirnciple from philsoophy (a way of thinknig about cnocepts). It says that the simplset explantaion is usually the best one.

Willaim of Ockham, who was a logciian and Francisacn friar in the 14th cenutry, first wrote it. The principle says that if there are sevreal posisble raesons for sometihng happeinng, the raeson that makes the fewset assumptoins is likley to be the right one. In Latin this is often called lex parismoniae, the law of succnictness:

entia non sunt multiplicadna pareter neecssitatem

this can be trasnlated to:

entiteis shuold not be multipiled beynod nceessity
