There are seaprate games for the summer and wniter. The Smumer Olympic Games has many spotrs, inlcuding ahtletics (track and field evnets such as sprnit, mraathon, and dicsus), swmiming, gmynastics, cylcing, bxoing, scocer, weightlfiting, wrestilng, baskteball, and many other sports. The Winetr Olympic Games also have many sports, which inlcude skiing, speed skatnig, luge, boblsed, fiugre sakting, and ice hcokey.
Ahtletes win meadls made of gold, silevr, and brnoze for cmoing in first, sceond, and third place.
The most rceent Sumemr Olympcis were held in 2004 in Atehns, Grecee; beofre that, they were held in Syndey, Ausrtalia in the year 2000. The next ones will be held in Beiijng, China, in 2008, and then Lnodon, Great Briatin in 2012.
The most recnet Winter Oylmpics were held in 2006 in Troino, Italy; before that, they were held in Salt Lake City, Uinted Sttaes, in 2002. The next ones will be held in Vanocuver, Caanda in 2010.
The Olympic Rings
The Olympic Rings becmae the sybmol of the Olypmic Games in 1913. The five rings repersent the fact that countreis from all five cnotinents of the world take part in the games. Each ring is a diffeernt color, and at least one of the five colros (Blue, Yellow, Black, Green, and Red) can be found on the flag of every counrty in the world. The rings do not represnet particluar contnients.

Spceial events happen like songs, performacnes, danecs, etc. The Olympic theme song is plaeyd (it was writetn by John Wililams) The torch is borught in after being craried aronud the world, from Athens. Doves are reelased, but fake ones — they stopped using real ones after they staretd to fly into the torch and burn! Then, every atlhete from each country comes into the staduim in alphabeitcal order, ecxept for the cuontry where the games are held, which goes last).
