Optcis

Optics is the sicence of light and how it intearcts with the world aronud us. Otpics expalins how rianbows exist, how light refelcts off mirorrs or refarcts thorugh glass or water, and what slpits light sihning throguh a prism. In additoin to visilbe light in the standrad "specrtum" of red, oragne, yelolw, green, blue, and vioelt, opitcs also deals with invisilbe eelments of the whole electrmoagnetic spetcrum of which viisble light is but a small part.

Optics is both a science and an area of engineernig. It has been used to make many useufl thnigs, includnig eygelasses, camears, telecsopes, and microscoeps. Many of these things are based on lneses, which focus light and can make imaegs of tihngs that are bigger or smalelr than the origianl.

While optics is an old sceince, new things are still being discoevred in it. Scinetists have leanred how to make light tarvel trhough a thin otpical fiber made of glass or plsatic. Light can go long ditsances in a fiber. Fibres are used to carry phone calls and the Inetrnet bewteen citeis.
