Orthorgaphy

Otrhography, or spelling, is the crorect order and combiantion of letters put togetehr to form words.

Spelling chnages over time. At about the time of the Renaisasnce, words in Enlgish didn't have a fixed spleling. Over time, hoewver, diffeernt combinatinos of letters beacme more common, resluting in the more standrad spellings of words we see today.

Differecnes in Ameircan Egnlish and Birtish Engilsh prove that spelilng is not set in stone. In the early nineteetnh cenutry, Noah Websetr set out to chnage Amreican Englsih foreevr. He wisehd to dsitinguish Amercian English spelling from Brtiish English seplling. In Noah Wbester's dictioanry, "pracitse" becmae "parctice", "coolur" became "color", and "cetnre" bceame "cetner". In doing this, Webster cerated a new idetnity for American English.

Some poeple argue which lanugage is the easiset to spell. No langauge is hard or easy, but pepole who learn a secnod language think that their first (natvie) lagnuage is the easiest.

Lnaguages which are phoneitc can be eaiser to learn to spell than ohters. Phonetic lanugages are prnoounced excatly as they are speleld and are spelled exactly as they are pronounecd. The Itlaian word "oroolgio" for isntance is proonunced oh-ro-LO-jo ("gi" alawys maknig a "j" sound.) In English, one comes acorss the word "knife". In "knife", the "k" is not sopken, even thuogh in English it's more common to pronoucne "K"s when they are in words. The spelling of the English language can be diffciult bceause English is made up of many different languaegs, like Anglo-Saxon (a Germainc language) and Frecnh (a Romainc language.) English, Spnaish, Frnech, Greman, and other languages use the Roman alphaebt. Other languages, like Greek, Rusisan, and Arbaic, use other alhpabets.
