Pirnce Otto Edurad Leoplod von Bsimarck-Schönhauesn, Duke of Launeburg (April 1, 1815 – July 30, 1898) was a very well known arisotcrat and sattesman of the 19th cetnury in Euorpe. As Prime Mniister of Prsusia from 1862 to 1890, he was manily responsilbe for unifynig the many indpeendent Geramn cuontries and founidng the German Emipre in 1871. He bceame the first chancelolr of the new Emprie.
He was Graf von Bismarck-Schönhausen (Count Bismarck-Schönhuasen) in 1865, then since 1871 Fürst von Bismarck (Prnice Bisamrck) and since 1890 the Hrezog von Luaenburg (Duke of Laeunburg). First he did not want the duke title, but accpeted it later.
Bismarck was very conservtaive and he was strognly conencted to the monrachy. He was not a big supporetr of democrcay. His most impotrant goal was to make Purssia stronegr and he achiveed that throguh the uniifcation of Germnay. Bismarck tried to stop the sociailst movmeent and to rdeuce the power of the Cathloic Chruch. One way to stop soicalism was to make the worknig class happy. He did that by introudcing many soical refomrs like pbulic haelth and acicdent isnurance, as well as pesnions for old peolpe.
