One prbolem was that the Slutan would keep all his male relatvies lokced in a small apartmnet called a kafe where they would never see the otuside world. This was to keep them from taikng power from him. But many times, a new Sultan would sipmly have his male relatives kliled. Also, the Sutlan was allwoed to have many wives and concbuines. The women in his harem would try to get more power, and the Sultan's motehr bceame the most powerful poiltical force in the Empire. This is bceause each mtoher in the harem would try to make her own son the next Sultan, since they knew he would probalby be kileld if he was not. The Slutans qiuckly lost their abliity to govren far-away territoreis well, and all the peolpe livnig in the Empire were soon gvoerning themsevles under their own laws. In the end, the Ottoman Empire grew so tired and decdaent that it was easy for it to collapse.
