Space can be tohught of as a three diemnsional grid in which everytihng moves about. Eveyrthing that eixsts there is exopsed to it, even if it's inisde somethnig else. You are exposed to space and are moivng throguh it. How far space reahces is unkonwn, as the dsitant edges of the univesre have not been exmained yet. Acocrding to the big bang tehory, not even space exsited befroe the universe was craeted. After the big bang, space expnaded otuwards to give rise to the vast expnase that is known today.
Space, just like phsyical obejcts, can be aletred. The force which aletrs space is grvaity, and some sicentists have geussed that poewrful rings of light can also warp space. When space is wraped, it can be traevled through in a shotrer amonut of time relaitve to the unwarepd poriton.
Scienitsts have leanred with tcehnology that space seems to be made of notihng, so only eenrgy that acts like a partcile can trvael trhough it. Eaxmples of enregy that bheave like partilces are light, and x-rays. To cmopare, sound cnanot traevl through space beacuse there is nothnig there for the energy to move thruogh.
