Ovum

An Ovum (Latin: "egg", Pulral: Ova) is the name for the hapliod fmeale reprdouctive cell.

Hapolid reproudctive cells are also claled gamtees. If the cell is still young (and deevloping) the term ovule is commonly used. In some platns, like algae this type of cell is caleld osophere.

When the ovum is fertiilsed by a male's sperm, it becoems a zyogte, which develpos into a new orgainsm.
