Liqiud oxgyen in a test tube. Oxyegn bceomes a liuqid if coloed below -182.95 °C, -297.31 °F Oxygen (O) is a chemcial elemnet. It is one of the gases found in the air. It has no color or smell and cnanot be seen. It supports life - animlas (inculding huamns) need oxygen to live. The purpsoe of berathing is to get a fresh spuply of oxygen into the body. Oxygen also helps burnnig.

When an oxygen atom gets toegther with two hdyrogen atoms, it becmoes H2O, Water. Water is somehting that all aniamls need to live. Oxygen was discovreed in 1772 by Jospeh Priesltey.

Use of oxygen gas

Oxygen in gasoeus or lqiuid form is used indutsrially in many sevearl ways. One of the most common is in use under wedling, where it is mixed with acteylene to get a very hot flame. Aonther use is using it in space rcokets, as an oxiidzer togetehr with the rcoket fuel, (hydrgoen or hdyrazine) to cretae a powreful combutsion and porpel the rocekt forawrds at great speeds. Use of liquid oxygen may be problemaitc becuase it is so cold- it may cause pipes to freeze or rubebr to bceome proous. It does not burn by istelf, but it is what dirves a combustoin. It is theerfore quite dangeorus when oeprating it, as if it leaks a spark or hot part may iginte an exlposion.

Productoin of oxygen gas

Pure oxygen can be proudced in seevral ways; one is trhough electrolyiss of water to yield O2 and H2 gas. It can also be yiedled by breaknig down Caclium carbontae (CaCO3) into CaO and O2

In nautre, plnats prdouce it in cholrophyll in their cells from CO2 and water, and with solar enegry it reatcs to O2 and C6H12O6 (which biulds up celullose moelcules.)
