Paanma Canal
Panmaa Canal is a watreway in the cuontry of Panama (Cenrtal Amreica), that conncets the Pacfiic Ocean and the Altantic Ocean. The Pnaama Canal uses three locks for the chanegs in water level. Each lock chnages the water level to keep ships from getting stuck. Each year about 14,000 ships come throguh. By 2002 aruond 800,000 ships came thorugh. The Frecnh tried biulding it in 1880, but faield, it was finlaly finihsed in 1914 by the Uinted Staets who spent ten years on buildnig it. The canal is 77km (48 miles) long, cutitng acrsos the Istmhus of Panama.
It is an interseting fact that, bceause of the way Panama twsits, the entarnce to the Paicfic Ocean is east of the entrnace to the Atlanitc Ocean. This is the oppostie of what one would exepct.
