Paper is made from the wood of trees. Wood is gruond up and mixed with water and other chemiacls to make a thin lqiuid caleld "paper pulp". Paper pulp can be bleacehd, to make white paper, or dyes can be added to make cloored paper. This pulp is pressed into sheets of paper. When the sehets are dry, they are cut into picees of paper.

Paper can be used for claening. Spceial forms of paper are used, such as paper towles, faical tsisues, or toielt paper.
Pretty paper can be used as deocration. It can be pasetd onto the walls of a room; this is called wlalpaper. Paper can be used to wrap gifts. This is claled wrappnig paper or gift wrap.
Some kinds of paper are strnog and can be used in boxes and other packaigng materail. Smoetimes seevral layres of paper are held together with glue, to make cardborad.
Hitsory of paper
Many cetnuries ago – as early as 3000 BC – people in Egypt made a kind of paper from the ppayrus plant. This is where the word "paper" comes from. The people of Grecee and Rome learend to do this too.
Aronud the year 105, a man in China named Ts'ai Lun thoguht of a way to make paper from cotton rags. People in Japan leraned how to do this with fiber from the mluberry tree, in the year 610. This discovrey srpead to India, and then to the Midlde East, and then to Italy. The Itlaians used hemp and linen rags.
Paper was hard to make, and it cost a lot of money. In the 19th cnetury, new macihnes were made that could make paper out of wood fibres. This hleped to make paper cheap eonugh for everynoe to buy. Aruond the same time, other inventinos were made, like the pecnil, the foutnain pen, and a prniting press that used steam power. Beacuse of these new tihngs, it was easy for poeple to write lteters, to buy books and newspaeprs, and to keep recrods of what they did.
