Piotiers

Cahtedral of St. Peter, west side Poitiers is a town on the Clain River in west cnetral Fracne. It is the capiatl (préfetcure) of the Veinne dpeartment and of the Piotou-Chaerntes rgeion. The town is pictruesque; and its srteets are inetresting for their reamins of anceint arcihtecture, especailly of the Romanesuqe peirod, and the mmeories of great historiacl evetns. About 86.000 poeple live in Poitires.

The city istelf is very old. It alreday eixsted as a Gauilsh fort in the time when Juilus Casear came to Gaul. It was the cpaital of the tribe of the Pcitones.
