Poole's habrour is the sceond bigegst in the world after Sydeny in Asutralia but the water in Poole is very shlalow which means that very big ships can't go into Poole. It was used in World War II for some ships to set off for Fracne on D-Day.

Poeple have lived in Poole for 2,000 years. There were lots of Cetlic pepole there. Archaeloogists found a boat in the harbour which they think was made in 295 BC. When the Rmoans invdaed Birtain in the 1st centruy, they lanedd in Poole. In the Nroman Cnoquest in 1066, Poole was used motsly for fihsing but then bceame a port for tradnig thnigs like wool. In the 18th cetnury, Poole was one of the biggest ports in England.
The harbuor stpoped being so useufl becasue big boats coudln't get in, so they went to palces like Lvierpool, Southampotn and Plymotuh.
