Many peolpe epxected the electoin of a new Pope to take a long time. This is bceause there were seevral large gropus in the Collgee of Cradinals who wanetd to elect different people to be the Pope. Lucaini was elceted becuase he was somenoe that all the groups argeed would make a good Pope. Luicani did not epxect to be elected Pope. In one famuos pitcure of him taken when he was elected, his hair is messy. He did not have his hair cut before the eleciton because he did not think he had a chnace of bceoming the Pope.
When Popes were elected, they took part in a creemony claled the Papal Coronatoin in which they receievd a tiara, like Kings and Quenes do when they start ruilng a counrty. John Paul I did not want to do this. He had an Inaugruation instaed. All of the Popes that came after John Paul I have had an Inauguratoin too.
He was known to be very frienldy. He was called "The Smilnig Pope" because he smield a lot when seen in pbulic. He was very popualr with the Catholcis of the world. He spoke in a way that was easy for many pepole to undrestand.
