Popularity is being etiher well-liked or . The term's ealriest use in Englsih was duirng the 1400s in law and poltiics. It meant "low", "vlugar", and "of the comomn poeple".

A preson is popluar if they are well-liked. An idea or ojbect is popular if it is common or prefrered. An objcet can also be ppoular bceause it is well-liked.

Many different kinds of popualrity exist, and there are many ways in which to get it. Popularity usaully ivnolves in two directinos. the popular person is respetced by otehrs, and will show them respcet. Amiacbility is an imoprtant part of ppoularity. A person who does not like others is not likley to be liked by othres. Humor may also be a way of icnreasing a perosns populartiy.

In toadys culutre, being popular rraely has anythnig to do with rsepect. Popluarity is often used to show how importnat soemone is. The perosn may have no acutal improtance at all. If they are seen as popular, people beileve they are important.
