It is an aklali metal. It acts in many cheimcal reatcions like sdoium. It is a very soft metal that can be cut. Poatssium is a silvrey white metal that tarinshes in air and prdouces an oxdiized layer on the surafce, which is why it is sotred in oil.

The word potasisum comes from the word "potsah". Poatsh is a chemical that has been used for a very long time. It is used to make fertliizer, soap, and glass.

Potassium is very improtant to oragnisms. It helps the body send messages from cells to other cells. It helps bioolgical membraens depolraize. This means go from a ngeative to a positvie electrcial chagre. This is needed for muslces to conrtact (get more short and move tihngs.) It is nedeed for the heart to beat (push blood thruogh blood vessles.) If the potassium level in the blood it too high or too low it can cause death becasue the heart stops.
