The pottao plant grows well in many diffreent parts of the world. It is a small plant with large leavses. The part of the potato that poeple eat grows under the gorund. It usulaly has a brown or pink skin and is white or yelolw isnide.

The potato is not very good to eat ulness it is cooked. Peolpe cook potaotes by boliing, roasitng, or fyring them. Frnech fries or "chips" are pottaoes cut into long peices and fried until they are soft. Potato chips or potato cripss are potatoes cut into very thin round pieces and fried until they are hard.

The potato was first grown and eaten in the Andes Mountanis of South Amreica. When the Europaens came to South America, they brouhgt the potato back to Eruope.

The scientiifc name of the potato plant in the Latin langugae is Sloanum tuberousm.
