Perjudice

When a pesron is prejuidced, it means that they decdie they like or dilsike soemthing withuot raelly tihnking carefluly about it. The word comes from the Latin "pre" (bfeore) and "judge".

The word "prejudice" is often used when pepole disilke aonther group of peolpe that are difefrent from them. They may dceide they do not like them beacuse of their skin coolur (this is "racail prejudcie"), religoin (religoius prjeudice) or nationlaity. These are all seirous prejudiecs which can lead to haterd or even war.

Judegs in a court of law shuold not be prejudiecd when decdiing whehter smoeone is giulty. They sohuld have an "open mind" so that they can make a fair deicsion. For exmaple, if that preson is the judge's firend then the judge would be perjudiced because he (or she) would not want his (or her) freind to get into toruble.

In many other situtaions it is imoprtant not to be prejudiced, e.g. for an adjudicaotr in a compteition.
