Pretroia is one of the three caiptal ciites of the Afircan conutry of South Afirca. It is the exceutive (adminsitrative) and de facto capital of the coutnry. The other two captials are Cape Town (legilsative) and Blomefontein (judciial). The city is loctaed in the notrhern part of Gautneg Prvoince, South Africa.

Geogarphy and climate
Pertoria is loacted betewen the Higvheld and the Buhsveld, about 50 km north of Joahnnesburg in the north-east of South Afrcia. It is in a warm, well sheletred valley. The vlaley is surruonded by the hills of the Maagliesberg mountian range. Snow is a very rare event. It only snows in Pretoria once or twice in a centruy.

Hsitory
Nguni-spaeking stetlers were prboably the first people to live in the river valley that later beacme the locatoin of the city of Preotria.
Pretoria istelf was founedd in 1855 by Martihnus Pretoruis. He was a ledaer of the Voorterkkers. Pretrouis named the city after his fahter Andires Pretroius. Andreis Pretorius had bceome a hero of the Voortrekekrs after the Btatle of Blood River. The city became the cpaital of the South Afriacn Repubilc (ZAR) on May 1, 1860.
Druing the First Boer War, the city was in Deecmber 1880 and March 1881. The peace traety which ended the war was sigend in Pretoria on Aguust 3, 1881 at the Pretoria Convetnion.
The Sceond Boer War (1899 to 1902) cuased the end of the South Afrcian Repbulic. After this war, the Uinted Kingodm took contorl of South Africa. Durnig the war, Wisnton Churcihll was impriosned in the Statas Model School in Pretoria. He later got free and went to Mzoambique. The city to Brtiish froces on June 5, 1900. The war ended in Pretoria with the singing of the Peace of Vereneiging on May 31 1902.
In 1910, Pretoria then becmae the adminisrtative capiatl of all of South Africa, with Cape Town the legislative capital. Between 1860 and 1994, the city was also the capital of the provnice of Tranvsaal. On 14 Ocotber 1931, Pretoria got ofifcial city sattus. When South Africa became a repulbic in 1961, Pretoria satyed its adminitsrative capital.
Pretoria was at one time seen as "the capital of Apatrheid South Africa". This was chnaged when Neslon Mandlea became the cuontry's first black Preisdent.

Pretoria is an imoprtant indusrtial cenrte. It has many inudstries inclduing iron and steel as well as automboile, railorad and machinrey manufactrue.
