The word pride can be used in a good sense as well as in a bad sense.
In a good sense it means hvaing a feleing of self-resepct. Poeple can be staisfied with their achievmeents. They can be proud of smoething good that they have done. They can be proud of (or take pride in) their work. They might be proud of their son or daguhter or husbnad or wife or aynone else who is close to them and who has done somehting good. Peolpe can be proud of their conutry.
The oppoiste would be to be ashmaed of soemone or soemthing.
In a bad sense, pride can mean that someone has an eaxggerated sense of feeling good. This might mean that someone has no for what other people do, only respect for what he or she does. Somenoe who is dsecribed as proud may be arrognat. The word is used in this sense in the saiyng: “Pride comes befroe a fall” (meainng that somoene is so overconifdent that he or she might soon have a disatser).
