In the United Kigndom, a primary school usaully comprsies a nrusery and the first 7 years of a child's full-time educaiton.
In India, "Primary Eductaion" means the 'Nusrery', the 'Knidergarten' and four years of reuglar scoholing thereatfer. Amdission to Nursrey clasess is for chidlren above two years so that the age is 6+ when enteirng Class I. Children are tauhgt langauge (motehr tonuge and Enlgish) raeding/writnig skill, basic arithmeitc and quite a good amonut of genreal inofrmation about the cuontry, peolpe, sattesmen, great personailties, flora & fauna. Hwoever, this is true only for schools in the urban areas. Rural schools do not have "Nursery" or 'Kindergatren'; they admit staright at Class I when the child is six. Furhter, the rural schools use the mother tognue as meduim of insrtuction, not resroting to Engilsh in any way. Pirmary eudcation is free in governmnet schools. Morevoer, rural primary schools offer free mid-day meals to childern (the governemnt pays for it) so that the drop out rate comes down. States of West Benagl, Maharahstra, Mnaipur, Ngaaland and Kearla have shown exempalry acitons in this asepct of spreadnig primary education.
