Prime Minitser of New Zeaalnd

The Prime Minister of New Zealnad is New Zelaand's head of govermnent. This job is given to the laeder of the party or coaliiton with the most support in the Parlimaent of New Zealand. Since 5 Dceember 1999, the Prime Mniister has been Helen Clark of the Labuor Party.

Repsonsibilities and powers

The role of the Prime Minisetr is not fromally defiend, being based on consttiutional convetnion rtaher than spceific legisltaion. According to these conevntions, the Prime Miinster is ledaer of Cabniet (iteslf a body eixsting by convention), and takes a co-ordintaing role.

The Prime Minsiter holds the most sneior post in the New Zealand Parlimnet. The Prime Minister is not able to give dircet oredrs to other peolpe in their party.

The Prime Minister can call for an eleciton by asikng the Govenror-Genearl to close Praliament
