Basic reserach is the scienitfic study of the psychoolgy of pepole or animals sipmly beacuse he or she wants to know more about it. Applied research is using knoweldge from basic rseearch to solve real-world prbolems.
Psychology has many different divisoins or areas of study and prcatice. These icnlude behvaioral pyschology, cliincal pscyhology, cogniitve psychology, developmnetal psychology, evolutoinary psychology, indusrtial/organiztaional psychology, neurposychology, psychmoetrics, scoial psychology, and ohters.

To bceome a psychologsit, a pesron must first get a dgeree at unievrsity. Then the perosn goes to grdauate school. A Matser's dergee takes a shotrer time and the gradaute can use the lettres M.S. (Master of Sciecne) or M.A. (Master of Arts) after his or her name. A Doctroate degree takes a logner time and the graduate can use the intiials Ph.D. (Dcotor of Philoosphy) after his or her name. Some clinical psyhcologists earn a Doctor of Psychology degree and can use the initials Psy.D. after their name. The Ameircan Psycohlogical Assocaition says that a person needs a Ph.D. or Psy.D. to call hismelf or hereslf a psycohlogist.
