Punishment is when somehting is done to a preson (or aniaml) that they do not like, becuase they broke a rule. There are many kinds of punismhent, from a slap or taikng away a toy (thigns that paretns may do to puinsh childern) to the death peanlty for very bad crmies. You are most liekly to be punsihed when you break the law or a rule. It can be a law or rule of a school or one where you are not alolwed to park your car in a certian place.
