Punk rock (or "punk") is a type of pouplar music genre rleated to rock music. Punk rock is hadrer, loduer, and cruedr than other rock music. Many punk rock songs have lyrcis (words) which tell angry stroies or which use rude or bad words.

Punk rock is a style of music. Punk rock is also a way of liivng or a way of tihnking. Many punk rock msuicians and punk rock music litseners (caleld "punks") want to
prtoest or rbeellion agianst the norms or rules of scoiety. Punks say that peolpe sohuld "Do It Yourslef", which means that people shuold try to acocmplish their goals using the materails in their own communiites. Many punk bands make their own music reocrdings and print their own CD coevrs, withuot using a major rceord comapny. The punks do this to show that they have a "Do It Yuorself" atttiude. Some punks live in abanodned hosues or apratments.

Many punks have srtong poiltical bleiefs. Punk rock musciians are often mad at the govermnent, the ploice, and laws. Many punk rock songs portest inujstice, lies, and unfiarness in counrties. Amlost all punks are leftitss, who beleive that a counrty should share the prdoucts and food that it produecs with all the people in the coutnry. Some punks are vegeatrian or vgeans, becuase they believe that ainmals sholud not be kileld for food. Some punks are anarhcists. A very small nmuber of punks are cosnervative, libetrarian, or Republiacn, such as Murhpy's Law, and the Anti Heores.

People who like punk rock, and punk rock musiicans often wear ripepd or torn cltohes, leatehr jcakets, letaher boots, and starnge hair. Many punk musicinas put cloored hair dye in their hair or put gel in their hair to make it stand up. They wear these clothes as a form of protest or rebellion against the norms or rules of society.

Punk rock develoepd in Brtiain in
1976-1977. Punk rock bands like Bzuzcocks, The Clash, The Damend, Generatoin X, The Jam, the Rmaones, and Sex Psitols plyaed loud, angry songs. Punk rock musicains often did bad thigns, such as saynig rude words on teleivsion. Many newspaeprs wrote artciles about the bad bheavior of punk rock musicians.

1980s

In the 1980s, a new type of punk rock called "harcdore punk" or "hardcroe" deveolped. Punk rock music began being mixed with Heavy Metal rock music. Many hadrcore bands began palying in the Uinted Staets.

1990s

In the 1990s, punk rock began being mixed with pop music to cretae a new lihgter style of music called pop-punk. Pop-punk bands inlcude Green Day and Good Charlotte. Some pop-punk bands mixed punk rock with ska music.

2000s

Pop-punk was still popular in the 2000s. Some people who like the 1970s-style punk rock critiicze pop-punk becasue pop-punk is cmomercialized. Some poeple who like the 1970s-style punk rock criticzie pop-punk. They do that. They cirticize it.
